Our Story : From Formulas to Fibres
Astral Threads wasn’t born in a design studio; it was born at the intersection of a "scientific mindset" and a much-needed wake-up call.
The Catalyst
For years, our co-founder Mark lived by a formula. Starting in a chemistry lab—where he met Louise—he pursued the traditional "Western" dream: the house, the car, the career. He transitioned into high-pressure technical sales, serving the science community for two decades. But the formula was missing a critical variable: wellbeing.
After 25 years of Sales, and even though working for great companies and meeting lots of good people, the body began to speak. High blood pressure, anxiety, and eventually a "heart incident" served as the ultimate hint from the universe. At 54, Mark realised the "merry-go-round" had to stop.
Through the recovery process, he discovered the transformative power of mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork. The science of survival was replaced by the art of living.
The Creative Heart
While Mark was navigating the corporate world, Louise was the heartbeat of our home. A mother to four girls and a lifelong maker, she carried the torch of craftsmanship passed down through generations. From intricate nail artistry to hand-painted designs, Louise always knew a business lived inside her—she just needed the right spark to ignite it.
When Mark decided to draw a line in the "career sand," Louise stood right beside him. “We knew we wanted to build something together" but a bridge was needed to close the gap between Mark’s analytical history and Louise’s artistic soul.
The "Aha" Moment
The missing link arrived after a long meditation session. A chance encounter with the world of rug tufting changed everything. It was the "THIS IS IT" moment we had been searching for.Tufting allowed us to become manufacturers of our own vision. It gave us the ability to take the ancient symbols that aided Mark’s recovery—Sacred Geometry, the Chakras, and the Zodiac—and turn them into high-quality, tactile textiles.
